Do I need a database?

No. Without Upstash Redis, boards use self-contained compressed token IDs (mutations may rotate the id). With UPSTASH_REDIS_REST_URL and UPSTASH_REDIS_REST_TOKEN, short stable 8-character IDs are used — preferred for share links.

Where can I find desk-setup shopping lists by role and budget?

Start on the home page, pick a role and budget band, then open purchase links on your local Amazon storefront. Share owner and shop links for your desk board.
